Overview

CALS Human Resources assists and supports departments/centers/units and employees throughout the college in all aspects of employment, workforce relations, compensation and titling, talent management, and payroll/benefit services.

Staff:

Mark Rickenbach, Senior Associate Dean
  • Responsible for management of the CALS faculty, including hiring, promotion, tenure and post-tenure activities. He is the primary point of contact for departments and UW-Madison administrative units on faculty issues and manages the college's administrative team.
Carol Hillmer, Associate Dean for Human Resources
  • Oversees the operations of CALS Human Resources, as they assist and support units throughout the college in all aspects of employment, human relations, payroll and benefits management, as well as HR partnerships throughout the college. She is the liaison for CALS with the campus Office of Human Resources, Benefits Services, Legal Services, and other campus partners. She also supervises HR staff, which includes leadership, guidance, support, and assistance with complex issues.

  • Partners with Carol Hillmer in advising college leadership (i.e., dean, senior associate dean, and other members of the senior staff) on all matters relating to faculty personnel
  • Responsible for oversight and coordination of college level workforce related issues, including but not limited to: performance, staff misconduct, harassment, hostile and intimidating behaviors
  • Partners with Cheryl Bowes on day-to-day CALS HR activities, operations, supervision, and serving the HR needs of CALS units
  • Assists Carol Hillmer with strategic planning, college communications, ensuring compliance, process improvements, streamlining workflows, achieving efficiencies, data management, and special projects
