  1. It is an 'instant messaging' platform like Facebook, Twitter.
    1. Organizations are learning that e-mail is not inheriantly social
    2. e-mail is almost always devoid of context 
  2. Chatter creates a general feed of messages from users
  3. It also creates a feed for every record in Salesforce!
    1. Users are able to send message specific to each record, putting questions and answers in context
  4. Allows users to create groups for discussion that might be distracting for all users
  5. Has additional features including:
    1. File sharing
    2. Quick polling
    3. Create new records from within a conversation (contact, lead, activity, event)
