Apple will release MacOS 11 (Big Sur) on Thursday, November 12. Due to software incompatibly issues, School of Education Mac users should NOT update to Big Sur at this time.

On Thursday 11/12/2020, Apple will be releasing macOS 11 – otherwise known as Big Sur.

Due to compatibility issues with security software installed on your Mac computer, School of Education users should NOT upgrade to Big Sur at this time.

From DoIT testing that is documented on this KB: https://kb.wisc.edu/page.php?id=107087, an incompatibility has been discovered with the current version of Spirion will result in error messages popping up every few seconds.

When the update to Spirion that resolves this issue has been released, we will contact you again and let you know you can go ahead with the update to Big Sur. We have been warned this update may not come until late 2020.

If you believe it is necessary to update to Big Sur (now or before the Spirion update is ready) or if you have any further questions or concerns, please contact the MERIT IT help desk at 608-265-4773 or helpdesk@education.wisc.edu
