July 31 - Implementation of New Backup System (SoE)

Beginning July 31, MERIT and WCER infrastructure staff will be installing a new backup system. The new system, called CommVault, will replace the Tivoli Storage Manager system as SoE's primary file backup system for servers, department or project folders, and individual's home folders. During the transition period, restore requests will be limited to a 24 hour rollback window.
The ability to restore older versions of files, including from the previous week or month, will be extremely limited. Infrastructure staff will review and follow up on restore requests on a case-by-case basis. Additional information about the new backup system and related services will be shared out by mid-August.
Please note: The upgrade does not require any preparation by network users; however, infrastructure staff recommend that SoE faculty and staff limit the number of network file or folder deletions until the transition is completed in mid-August.
