Effective July 1, MERIT is implementing a new computer support policy, aimed at clarifying support priorities for MERIT staff, creating transparency on MERIT’s support practices and encouraging replacement of production computers that are 7 or more years old.

The MERIT Computer Support policy was discussed at the School of Education's Information Technology Policy Advisory Committee (ITPAC) meetings during the spring semester, with additional feedback sought and incorporated after discussions with the Art department. The policy complements the School of Education’s Capital Exercise supporting lifecycle replacement for primary computers that are 3 or more years old. It also helps the School comply with the UW-Madison campus policy regarding devices connected to the campus network.

Please see the complete MERIT Computer Support Policy at: https://kb.wisc.edu/27237.

This policy only applies to university-owned computer systems where MERIT is the primary computer support provider for a School of Education department or unit.

MERIT representatives would be happy to meet with you, your ITPAC representative, and/or members of your School of Education department or unit to provide any additional context or clarification regarding this policy.
