UW-Madison Google Workspace - View activity and file versions
This document describes how to view file activity and versions in Google Drive.

Version history for Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides is different than the activity history for files stored in Drive. See Google Docs Editors - Find what's changed in a file

My Drive:
- Select the My Drive option from the left-hand menu.
- Select a file or folder.
Shared Drive:
- Select the Shared drives option from the left-hand menu.
- Select a Shared drive.
- Select a file or folder.

In the upper right corner of the screen select the i to view the drive's details, then select Activity to view the folder or file details. Here you'll be able to view:
- When files are uploaded, added, renamed, moved, edited, or deleted from the drive.
- Deleted files that have been in trash less than 30 days can be restored from this screen.
- Who shared a file or folder, and who they shared the file or folder with.
- When permissions are changed for a folder or file and the updated permissions.
