How the Reliance Team Can Help with the NIH Single IRB Review Policy

DRAFTING A GRANT PROPOSAL

Health sciences researchers should contact the Health Sciences IRBs Reliance Team as soon as possible when drafting a proposal or application for federal funding of a multi-site protocol.

The Health Sciences IRBs Reliance Team can advise study teams regarding:

  • information to include in your grant
  • the appropriate IRB to oversee the research
  • budgeting for IRB review
  • putting together a communication plan, which is required by the NIH policy
  • other implications of the single IRB review policy for the study team, such as additional roles and responsibilities the study team may incur as a result of using a single IRB

The Health Sciences IRBs Reliance Team can also reach out to the IRBs at other institutions involved in the funding proposal to discuss single IRB arrangements and provide, when appropriate, a letter of support related to single IRB review for the funding proposal.

Upon notice of grant award, please see IRB Application Guidance for Multisite and Collaborative Research Studies.

SELECTED AS A SITE

The Reliance Team can also advise study teams selected as a site, or are considering acting as a site, for a federally funded multi-site protocol, regarding:

To request assistance with any of these items, please email the Reliance Team at irbreliance@wisc.edu with as much of the following information as possible:
