WiscIT- Change Request Types, Statuses, and Lifecycle
An overview of Change Request types and their lifecycle in WiscIT, Powered by Ivanti Neurons.
Change Request Types
There are three types of Change Requests in WiscIT: Normal, Emergency, and Standard.
- Normal Changes are those that have more than 48 hours of lead time from when the Change Request is submitted to its planned implementation start date.
- If your change is not an Emergency and you do not have an active Standard Change Template, then it is by default a Normal Change.
- Emergency Changes have a legitimate need to be implemented as soon as possible, and should be filed if there is less than 48 hours from the submission time to its implementation date.
- Must be used if there is less than 48 hours or 2 business days until implementation of the change.
- Require pre-approval from a Manager or Associate Director (or higher). The pre-approving Manager is notified of the Emergency CR upon submission.
- Require 'Justification' to document the need for urgency and why this change should be implemented right away.
- Do not otherwise require approval and skip the "Pending Approval" stage so that they may be implemented ASAP.
- Standard Changes are routine, low risk changes that can be submitted without the need for approval by Change Management or the Change Advisory Board.
- Appropriate for routine, repeatable, low-risk and low-impact changes
- Must have an active, approved 'Standard Change Template' in order to use
- Expedites the change request process by making it easy and quick for technologists to create a Change Request based on the approved template
- Do not require approval as long as an approved Standard Change Template is used.
Change Request Statuses and Lifecycle
The full lifecycle of a Normal Change Request is:
Draft->Submitted (Pending Approval)->Approved & Scheduled-> Implementation In Progress->Implementation Complete->Closed
Standard and Emergency Change Requests do not require approval. Their lifecycle is:
Draft->Submitted (Approved & Scheduled)-> Implementation In Progress->Implementation Complete->Closed
