Microsoft 365 - Introducing new Outlook for Windows
Important: Starting April 2026, Microsoft 365 for Enterprise users will be switched from classic to new Outlook for Windows, with the option to revert back. This transition is being managed by Microsoft. Note: Users will have notice in the application prior to being toggled and will have the option to opt out of the experience in "Outlook Options/Settings | General". Users who are toggled into new Outlook can toggle back to classic Outlook if they choose to.
How can you switch to the new version
All you need to do is slide the Try the New Outlook toggle located in the upper-right corner of your classic Outlook for Windows, and follow the onscreen instructions.
Is the new version of Outlook client supported
Yes. Please contact the DoIT Help Desk so the issue can be reviewed and handled accordingly. If you continue to experience problems/issues/missing features, we recommend you switch back to the Classic version of Outlook.
How do I see the version of the new Outlook client I am running
Open new Outlook > Settings> General> About Outlook.
How do I force update to the latest version of the new Outlook client I am running
- Close new Outlook and classic if opened
- Open Run dialog
- Enter the following: olk.exe --force-update (This starts the installer silently to update before launching the client)
Important: If you are on a managed computer, you may need to contact your local IT support staff to perform the above command.
Are the features/settings the same between Classic and New Outlook
No. There are many differences between the two clients. Learn more.
How to switch back to standard version of Outlook
To switch back to the classic version of Outlook, toggle New Outlook setting to off to and follow the onscreen instructions.
