Moodle - Inability to Find User


UW-Madison is adopting Canvas as the single, centrally supported learning management system, and discontinuing support for Desire2Learn (D2L) and Moodle. Problem: I have tried to add someone to my course, but the person does not appear when I search for them.

To search for a user to add to your course, first click the "Enroll users" button in the upper right corner of the page.  Then use the Enroll users pop up to search for users as shown below.

Not being able to add someone to your course is a somewhat common issue and is usually caused by one of two problems: (1) the system not recognizing the search terms or (2) the user is not in the system.

The search system uses a person's name associated with a user's campus NetID. This can be a source of confusion since the system searches "official" names, not nicknames. Try searching with only a portion of their name instead of the person's full name. Use the most unique portion of their official name.

If this fails, try searching using the user's campus NetID instead.
