## Moodle - Using MathJax in courses

**Note:**

UW-Madison is adopting Canvas as the single, centrally supported learning management system, and discontinuing support for Desire2Learn (D2L) and Moodle. Access to D2L and Moodle will permanently end **June 1, 2018**. For information about retaining materials from D2L or Moodle, please refer to this document.

Describes how to use MathJax in moodle courses.

### Enabling MathJax in a moodle course

- Go to
*Settings > Course administration > Filters*or if you are in an activity*Administration > Course administration > Filters* - Enable the
*MathJax filter* - Disable the built-in
*TeX notation*filter - Click the
*Save changes*button

The *Tex notation* filter converts embedded TeX expressions to images and is enabled by default. You should disable it so that MathJax will handle TeX expressions.

### Using MathJax in moodle

MathJax will render TeX and AMS TeX expressions enclosed in the standard TeX delimiters:

Inline TeX formulas: \(...\)

Displayed TeX formulas: \[...\] and $$...$$

MathJax will also render MathML enclosed in <math> tags

For more information, see the MathJax documentation.
