Using UW-Madison's Tableau Server
Sign In to UW-Madison's Tableau Server
Some Tableau workbooks prompt users to sign in to UW-Madison's Tableau server before viewing a workbook. To do so:
-
Click on a link to go to the Tableau workbook. This link could be shared with you by the workbook's developer, found on a UW-Madison department page, or found in RADAR (UW-Madison's Repository of Administrative Dashboards and Reports).
-
You will arrive at this landing page. Select "UW-Madison" in the dropdown.

-
Sign in using your NetID and password.

-
Note: If you receive an error message after logging in, you may not have the appropriate permission to view the workbook. Error messages can include Resource Not Found or Page Could Not Be Accessed. Follow these steps to request access to the workbook:
-
Go to RADAR
-
Find the workbook.
-
Click Request Access on the far-right side of the page.
-
-
For more information on access restrictions, go to this KB Article on Using the Repository of Administrative Data and Reports (RADAR).
Navigating the Server
The best way to navigate the server and see all available reports to you is to click the Explore button on the left hand sidebar, then click "UW Madison Institutional Data".

Finding a Workbook
The Tableau Server offers several tools for finding workbooks, including Favorites and Search Tools. Both of these options are described below.
Quick Search
Enter keyword(s) in the Quick Search bar at the top of the page to see matching content from anywhere in the site. As you type, a sample of matching content appears according to relevance. Hover over items for more information. To see all results, click on See All.
For more detailed searches, use the operators and, or, or not. Use * at the beginning or end of a word to substitute for exact terms. Use quotation marks to enclose search phrases.

Favorites
To favorite a workbook:
-
Go to List View.
-
Click the star to the left of the workbook name.

-
To remove a favorite, click the star again.
To retrieve your favorite reports, click the Star icon in the upper right corner near your initials.

Advanced Search Options
Advanced Search Options allows you to find content using a search box as well as filters. Results are displayed only within the source page you are currently on. For example, if you are on the Workbooks source page, advanced searches only display workbooks containing your search criteria.
