Denodo: Connect Tableau Desktop to Denodo
This article is meant to help Tableau developers using Tableau Desktop who wish to use Denodo as a data source.
Connect Using ODBC (Recommended)
ODBC is the recommended connector for most users, as it comes pre-packaged with Tableau Desktop and requires no additional driver installation.
NOTE: In older versions of Tableau Desktop the Denodo ODBC Connector is marked "Deprecated" - this is being corrected in future versions. Both Salesforce (Tableau) and Denodo have committed to persisting this connector.
- In Tableau, go to Data > New Data Source
- Select To a Server > More… > Denodo (deprecated)

- In the Denodo dialog fill in the following fields:
- Server: connect.data.wisc.edu
- Port: 9996
- Database: semantic (or virtual database you want to connect to)
- Authentication: Username and Password
- Username: your NetID email (e.g., netid@wisc.edu)
- Password: your NetID password
- Select Require SSL
- Click Sign In

Denodo Driver Files
The Denodo driver files for Tableau need to be downloaded and installed on your local computer in the My Tableau Repository folder in the Documents directory.
Instructions on installing the driver files for Tableau are found here.
Set Up Data Source
Once the two configuration steps are complete, Tableau Desktop will be able to connect to the UW Denodo resources.
Here is a step-by-step guide for connecting to the resources.
- Open Tableau Desktop software.
- On the left column, there is a section for connecting to a server. Select Denodo JDBC by Denodo Technologies.
- If you don’t see correct Denodo option, click on the More... option and search for Denodo.
