The University of Wisconsin System will not be renewing their contract with Blackboard Collaborate, which ends on June 30, 2021.
This means that the web conferencing tool will no longer be available for use at UW-Madison. As of that time, it will no longer be accessible via Canvas or the My UW-Madison portal.
UW-Madison has an enterprise contract with Zoom and it is integrated with Canvas. It is recommended that all UW-Madison courses being delivered for summer and beyond use Zoom for online and hybrid instruction. You can read the announcement of the recommendation here.
If you have been using Blackboard Collaborate with Canvas, this document is a helpful place to start as you transition to Zoom. It provides information such as how to add Zoom to your Canvas course and how to use breakout rooms with Zoom.
Zoom is also available for non-instructional web conferencing purposes, along with several other web conferencing tools. Please see this document for a comparison of those tools. For information on how to use Zoom outside of Canvas, see UW-Madison Zoom - Getting started.
Recordings in Zoom are not automatically archived in Kaltura. If you would like to make archives of your Zoom recordings, please refer to this document for instructions.
