WiscVPN GlobalProtect (iOS) - Installing, Connecting, and Uninstalling

This document contains instructions for installing, connecting, disconnecting, and uninstalling the GlobalProtect VPN app on iOS (iPhone and iPad). This app is for iOS versions 10.3 and later.

   

Downloading the GlobalProtect VPN App

  1. Launch the App Store.

  2. Search for GlobalProtect.
  3. Tap Get.

Native IPSEC Client

See WiscVPN (iOS) - Configure the Native VPN Client for instructions to connect to the native VPN client for iOS. 

Note: This is only available for dynamic IP addresses. If you need to connect to a Static IP address, you must download the GlobalProtect app instead.

GlobalProtect Legacy

GlobalProtect app 4.1.5 for iOS is now renamed GlobalProtect Legacy. We recommend that you uninstall any older versions of the app and download GlobalProtect from the App Store.

Connecting and Disconnecting from the VPN

Connecting to WiscVPN

  1. Once the GlobalProtect app is installed (see above), open the app.
  2. Choose if you want to allow GlobalProtect to send you notifcations
    • Note: GlobalProtect will notify you if your connection fails in the background. This will not happen if you do not allow notifications.
  3. Enter the WiscVPN portal address: uwmadison.vpn.wisc.edu. Then tap Connect.

  4. Tap Allow to allow GlobalProtect to set up a VPN configuration.

  5. Enter your NetID and NetID password, then tap Sign In.

  6. Enter the MFA-Duo passcode from your key fob/Duo Mobile app, or enter "1" to receive a push notification on your Duo device.

  7. The screen will display a green shield icon and a blue background to indicate that the VPN is connected.

Disconnect from the VPN

  1. Open the GlobalProtect app.
  2. Tap the green shield icon. It will turn gray and display "Tap to Connect".

Uninstalling the GlobalProtect VPN App

Uninstalling the App

Follow the standard procedure of deleting an app:

  1. Locate GlobalProtect on your home screen.

    Locate the app icon on the home screen.

  2. Press and hold on the app to activate the delete function.

  3. Tap the "x" on the app icon to delete it.
  4. Tap Delete in the confirmation box.

    Click the X and delete the app.

Checking for and Deleting VPN Configuration

The GlobalProtect app creates a "VPN configuration" on your device. Deleting the GlobalProtect app will generally delete this profile as well. 

Follow these steps to confirm that the VPN was removed.

  1. Open the Settings app on your device.
  2. Tap General, then tap VPN.

  3. Tap the GlobalProtect configuration to open it.

    • Note: If you do not see GlobalProtect, the VPN profile has already been removed.
  4. Select Delete VPN.

  5. The GlobalProtect VPN configuration will be removed from the list if correctly removed.
