Building

If you cannot find your location on the drop down menu, try looking it up by building number: https://facilities.fpm.wisc.edu/facility-list/. If you still cannot find your location, enter it in the text box “Building other” provided.

Room

Multiple rooms can be listed as a single entry if they have the same use, biosafety level, and containment equipment.

For animals listed on the protocol that are maintained via another entity on campus (such as in WIMR), listing the room number as “vivarium” is acceptable. It is possible during the protocol review by OBS, that you may be asked to provide a specific room number for animal work.

All rooms used to house materials listed on your protocol or used for research-related purposes should be listed.  Examples can include: autoclave rooms, collaborator’s space (if listed personnel will be working in the collaborator’s space with listed material), core facility rooms, and vivariums.

Biosafety Level

To determine if your space meets the criteria for a particular biosafety level, please review the NIH Guidelines and the BMBL: Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories (BMBL) 6th Edition.

If you share a space and higher biosafety level work is occurring in the space, all work must be performed at the higher biosafety level: Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) – Shared Use of Laboratory or Animal Facilities
