UW-Madison Google Apps - How will Google Calendar affect WiscCal or Office 365 calendar?

In order to enable Google Plus, UW-Madison Google Apps was also required to enable Google Calendar. Although you are free to use Google Calendar, WiscCal and Office 365 are UW-Madison's official enterprise calendaring systems. It is recommended that you continue to use WiscCal or Office 365 for scheduling meetings. Information about potential interoperability issues is available below.

Meeting invitations from WiscCal or Office 365

  • If you use WiscCal or Office 365 to send a meeting invitation to a WiscMail/WiscMail Plus or Office 365 email address, the meeting will not appear in Google Calendar
  • If someone else uses WiscCal or Office 365 to invite your WiscMail/WiscMail Plus or Office 365 email address to a meeting, the meeting will not appear in your Google Calendar

Meeting invitations from UW-Madison Google Calendar

  • If someone invites your WiscMail/WiscMail Plus* or Office 365 email address to a meeting using UW-Madison Google Calendar, the meeting will appear in both your WiscCal or Office 365 calendar and your UW-Madison Google Calendar

    • If you reply using WiscMail/WiscMail Plus or Office 365, an email notification will be sent to that individual's inbox in WiscMail/WiscMail Plus or Office 365. The reply will not be reflected in the event in that individual's Google Calendar.
    • If you reply using Google Calendar, an email notification will be sent to that individual's inbox in WiscMail/WiscMail Plus or Office 365. Your reply will also be accurately reflected in the event in that individual's Google Calendar.
  • If you invite someone's WiscMail/WiscMail Plus* or Office 365 email address to a meeting using UW-Madison Google Calendar, the meeting will appear in both their WiscCal or Office 365 calendar and their UW-Madison Google Calendar

    • If the individual replies using WiscMail/WiscMail Plus or Office 365, you will receive an email notifications about the reply in your inbox in WiscMail/WiscMail Plus or Office 365. Their response will not be reflected in the event in your Google Calendar.
    • If the individual replies using Google Calendar, an email notification will be sent to your inbox in WiscMail/WiscMail Plus or Office 365. The response will also be accurately reflected in the event in your Google Calendar.

*Only applies for WiscMail Plus if UW-Madison Google Apps is enabled for the WiscMail Plus account

Meeting invitations from non-UW-Madison Google Calendar

  • If someone invites your WiscMail/WiscMail Plus* or Office 365 email address to a meeting using Google Calendar with a non-UW-Madison Google Apps account (e.g., a Gmail account), the meeting will appear in both your WiscCal or Office 365 calendar and your UW-Madison Google Calendar

    • If you reply from WiscMail/WiscMail Plus or Office 365, the reply will be accurately reflected in the individual's Google Calendar.
    • If you reply from UW-Madison Google Calendar, the reply will be accurately reflected in the individual's Google Calendar.

  • If you invite someone's WiscMail/WiscMail Plus* or Office 365 email address to a meeting using Google Calendar with a non-UW-Madison Google Apps account (e.g., a Gmail account), the meeting will appear in both their WiscCal or Office 365 calendar and their UW-Madison Google Calendar

    • If the individual replies from WiscMail/WiscMail Plus or Office 365, the reply will be accurately reflected in the your non-UW-Madison Google Calendar.
    • If the individual replies from UW-Madison Google Calendar, the reply will be accurately reflected in your non-UW-Madison Google Calendar.

*Only applies for WiscMail Plus if UW-Madison Google Apps is enabled for the WiscMail Plus account
