Connecting to Russell Printer, Mac

This document provides the easy way to print from a Mac computer to Russell Labs networked printers.

Audience

  • Entomology, Plant Pathology, and Forest & Wildlife faculty, students, and staff; Hub staff

Steps to Add a Network Printer on a Mac

  1. Ensure the Mac is connected to the Russell Labs network. The Mac will either need to be connected via Ethernet inside Russell Labs. If the machine is connected via wireless or on a network outside of Russell Labs the computer will need to be connected using the departmental VPN.

  2. On the computer, open System Preferences.

  3. In System Preferences, click Print & Scan. 
    Note: in some versions of Mac OS X, this was labeled Print & Fax.

  4. In the Print & Scan window click on the + button. It will be located in the lower left hand corner of the window that displays added devices.

  5. Select the IP tab. Add the IP address of the printer you wish to print to.

  6. OS X should auto-detect the printer and add the correct driver Sharp BP-50C36 PPD. If the driver software is not available on the Mac you will need to download the driver from the printer manufacturer.

  7. Click add select the following options: (must also be used for IP 144.92.199.220)

  8. Select the options appropriate for the printer you are connecting to.

The following options are available for the Sharp color copiers:

Input Tray: Four Trays

Output Tray: Inner Finisher

     9. The printer should now appear in your list of printers.
