Windows - Installing Java

This document provides a brief outline of the installation process for the Java software. Specific details may vary as versions change, refer to http://java.com for the most recent information.

Note: This process will require an admin password and username for installation. 

Perform the following steps to install Java:

  1. Access Oracle's Java website at http://java.com.

  2. Click either the blue Download Java for Desktops button under the Java to run desktop applications section, or click the Java for Desktop Apps at the top of the page.

  3. This will take you to a page with the most recent update of Java. Click on the Download Java for Desktops button to begin the download. Once it has finished, click on the .exe file appearing in your browser's download folder.

  4. You will be prompted to enter an administrator username and password. If you are an employee and work on a university-provided device, you may have to come in to have the Helpdesk install the program manually. Once you have entered the username and password, Click Yes and continue through the installation prompts.

  5. Choose to Save File when prompted.

  6. Once the installation process has progressed to completion, a confirmation box will appear. Click Finish to complete the installation.

  7. The software should now be successfully installed.
