Microsoft 365 (iOS) - Configure the Native Email/Calendar App for iPhone, iPad, and iPod
This document explains how to add or reconfigure your UW-Madison email account to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod.
Important: To begin using modern authentication protocols for Microsoft 365 through the native email/calendar app for iPhone, iPad, and iPod, please proceed to Reconfigure iPhone/iPad/iPod to use Modern Authentication section.
Which OS versions support Modern Authentication for an Microsoft 365 account?
iOS 11 or later, iPadOS 13.1 or later, and macOS 10.14 or later support Microsoft Modern Authentication workflows.Important: Certain mobile devices that connect to your Microsoft 365 account via the Exchange/ActiveSync protocol can be remotely wiped. This is a useful feature that can help protect your privacy. Please read about Microsoft 365 remote device wipe to see if your device supports this, and learn how it works. If you do not want remote wipe capability via Microsoft 365, your device may have the option to connect via IMAP. If connected via IMAP, you will only have access to your email.
Configure iPhone/iPad/iPod to Access Your UW-Madison Email Account
- Open Settings.
- View and follow Apple's documentation on how to add an email account to your device.
- Note: These instructions are for devices that run on iOS 14 or later. Learn how to view your device's software version and update, if needed.
- Select Exchange or Microsoft Exchange.

- Enter your email account and tap Next. Your email address depends on your account type (a NetID account or service account), both of which are shown in the formatting examples below. If you are unsure whether to configure a NetID account or a service account, please contact your domain administrator or the DoIT HelpDesk. You may also consult the article Microsoft 365 - What account types are available in Microsoft 365?. Note: For the Description box, you can either name your email account (as demonstrated in the image below) or leave it blank.
- NetID account email format: netid@wisc.edu (bucky@wisc.edu) or first.last@wisc.edu (bucky.badger@wisc.edu)
- Service account email format: name@domain.wisc.edu (help@bucky.wisc.edu)

- Select Sign In.

- Log in with your username and password. For NetID accounts, your username should be your NetID, like so: netid. For service accounts, your username should follow the following format: username_domain. Please note that for multi-level domains (e.g., username@domain1.domain2.wisc.edu), use the following format instead: username_domain1.domain2. For the password, use the same password associated with the account being configured.
- Note: For a Microsoft Exchange login, make sure to include the @wisc.edu extension. For an SSO login, your login will be the same as that for NetID accounts, outlined above.

- Authorize Duo Multi-Factor Authentication.
- Note: If you do not have Duo enabled for your netid@wisc.edu account, you will not see the prompts in steps 7 and 8. To learn more about Duo and its security function, see the following article: MFA-Duo - What is Duo Multi-factor Authentication?.

- Click Accept.

- Toggle the switches for the services you would like to enable, and then click Save.

- Click on Mail Days to Sync, and set it to No Limit if you would like all of the mail in your inbox to be synced to your device. The default time period is one week. Be aware that the more mail that is synced, the longer it may take to receive all of the messages on your device.
