GitLab (git.doit.wisc.edu) Upgraded from 13.12.12 to GitLab 14.0.11 on 11/30/2021

GitLab (git.doit.wisc.edu) was upgraded from 13.12.12 to GitLab 14.0.11 on 11/30/2021.

In order to support this upgrade and the availability of new features, users should read the Gitlab 14.0 Upgrade changes and determine how changes may impact your use of GitLab.

Changes that Will Require Many Users to Make Minor Adjustments: 

  • Name change of default branch in Git from master to main. Learn more about the change of the default branch name. 
  • WIP merge requests renamed "draft merge requests"
  • CI_PROJECT_CONFIG_PATH predefined project variable is removed in favor of the CI_CONFIG_PATH
  • Removal of support for release description in the Tags API in favor of new Releases API
  • Expired ssh keys will be disabled by default

Less Commonly Used Features that are Changing -- Review the Upgrade Notes for More Detail:

  • Legacy feature flags
  • OAuth 2 implicit grant flow with GitLab applications
  • GitLab Runner setup: no skel directory will be created by default
  • GitLab Managed Apps
  • GitLab Project API: limits on large file uploads

What can users expect? 

  • GitLab will be unavailable on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 from 10:00 p.m. to Wednesday, December 1, 2021 12:00 a.m.
  • Users may need to make minor adjustments after the upgrade
  • New features and the latest security enhancements will be available
