If you currently use the DoIT Artifact Repository (Artifacts.doit), schedule a time to meet with the Shared Tools team.

What is changing?

The Artifactory instance, used only by DoIT staff, will be discontinued. All data, including Docker registries and maven repositories, stored in this tool need to be moved to a new location, archived, or removed.

The on-premise instance of Artifactory (artifacts.doit.wisc.edu) will be discontinued as of May 31, 2024. Users are encouraged to migrate to alternatives by May 17, 2024.

Why is the DoIT Artifact Repository (Artifacts.doit) being discontinued?

GitLab and Cloud/SaaS solutions offer more flexibility, additional features, an improved user experience, and enhanced security.

What should you do as a user of artifacts.doit?

Users should:

  1. Evaluate how they use artifacts.doit.wisc.edu
  2. Determine their data archive and retention needs
  3. Schedule working sessions with the Shared Tools team to archive their data and migrate to alternatives
  4. Learn how-to use GitLab as a Maven Repository, Artifactory in the cloud, or other solutions
  5. Stop using artifacts.doit.wisc.edu by May 17, 2024

What are your alternatives?

  1. GitLab (git.doit.wisc.edu) can be used for Docker registries and Maven repositories.
  2. A self managed solution.
  3. A new Cloud/SaaS instance of Artifactory is only available for Maven repositories and users who cannot use GitLab.

What resources are available to you?

Upon request, the Shared Tools team can meet with you and provide recommendations. The needs of each service team will vary. Changes to processes will be completed by the developers of each application or service. The Shared Tools team can assist with:

  • Data archives
  • Bulk exports and imports of Maven repositories
  • Identifying helpful resources
