General Reports

Albert Muniz, ASEC Chair, discussed the recent meeting of the budget approach Coordinating Committee, at which they discussed a new task force on the Wisconsin Idea.

Lesley Fisher, Interim Secretary of the Academic Staff, reported that she sent a call for nominations for the Vice Chancellor for University Relations Search and Screen Committee. Finalist visits have been scheduled for late April for the dean of the School of Education. It was recently announced that Jonathan Levine will be the next dean of the School of Veterinary Medicine. The Administrative Quality Satisfaction Survey will be sent to employees on Tuesday.

Liaison Reports

Lindsey Stoddard Cameron shared that the Division of Continuing Studies CASI worked on a memorial resolution that will be presented at the May Assembly meeting.

Julie Hunt Johnson reported that the Extension CASI has a new chair.

Nola Walker reported that the College of Engineering CASI has been working on guidelines related to professional development.

Guest: Karen Massetti-Moran, Deputy Chief Human Resources Officer, Office of Human Resources (OHR)

The paid parental leave policy was presented at the recent Board of Regents meeting. The policy will go into effect on July 1 and provide 6 weeks of paid leave, continuous or intermittent, within a 12-month period. OHR has answers to many frequently asked questions on their website.

Regarding the central compensation fund (CCF), schools, colleges, and divisions were directed to communicate their plan for distribution to all employees within their unit. There were also articles about CCF in Inside UW and Working at UW.

The Compensation Center of Excellence evaluates employee population data on an annual basis. They recently looked at parity and compression within job titles and met with each school, college, and division to share their findings.

Degree requirement language in job postings should be position specific. OHR encourages use of “preferred” language (e.g., bachelor’s degree preferred rather than bachelor’s degree required), as it leads to a more diverse applicant pool.

Recessed at 3:02pm.

Reconvened at 3:05pm.

Guest: Gloria Hawkins, Ombuds

Gloria discussed the 2022-2023 Ombuds Annual Report. There was a 10.5% increase in the number of cases, and the average number of hours per case was 2. There was a decrease in the percentage of hostile and intimidating behavior cases. Evaluative relationships continued to dominate the caseload. 53.4% of visitors served were academic staff.
