University Committee Meeting Minutes

Sandgren call the meeting to order at 1:47.

 

Sandgren moved to convene in closed session; it was seconded and approved at 1:48. One track transfer, one tenure clock extension and one leave of absence were approved.

Sandgren moved to reconvene in open session; it was seconded and approved at 2:03.

The minutes of the meeting of February 28, 2022 were approved by consent.

 

Approval for leave of absences exceeding 5 years was delegated to Chancellors by UW System in 2011. Policies were never updated here, and UW-Madison sent an approval to UW System as recently as 2019. A change in language in Faculty Policies & Procedures will put forward for a vote this spring.

 

A draft charge for the Sustainability Ad Hoc Committee is in Box. Secretary Daniels met with the ASM equity and inclusion chair to discuss training for faculty and staff on DEI issues.

 

Adrian Lampron, chair of ASM, reported that ASM has finished their budget approvals and recently approved an increase to $12 for wages for student hourlies with ASM. They are hosting a multicultural student organization dinner and holding sustainability events on Fridays through Earth Day. ASM will be lobbying both at the state capitol and in Washington, D.C. this spring.

 

Chancellor Rebecca Blank reported that UW System President Tommy Thompson’s last day is March 18. Michael Falbo will serve on interim president through the end of May. The new president, Jay Rothman, is participating in many transition meetings until he begins service on June 1. Matthew Mayrl is running the transition process for the Chancellor.

 

COVID cases on campus continue to decline. There were 17 total cases last week. She met with ASM about COVID issues. Students will be able to pick up two COVID tests before spring break and students will have access to university provided N95 masks. There will be no implications for students wearing or not wearing masks in the classroom.
