Graduate Programs - OneSoHE Advanced Professional Development Seminar (ADV-PDS) 2021-22

All graduate students will also receive the calendar invite with room location and/or zoom links for each scheduled event. SoHE graduate students in all graduate programs are invited and encouraged to attend these events. This seminar series is focused on professional development topics for SoHE students (across our HDFS, CSCR, DS, and CBFE programs). These sessions are on critical topics for being successful in graduate school as well as in your future careers. Students are encouraged to attend multiple sessions each year. Topic: Gaining Confidence in Networking

This workshop will be on networking, with an emphasis on connecting with potential mentors and building relationships.  The workshop presenter will be Gardy Guiteau, an equity and inclusion leader and trainer.  Gardy has been designing and facilitating social justice and diversity training for students, faculty, staff and community leaders at higher education institutions (and K-12 schools, community organizations, etc) for 15+ years, including for a decade as Director of Social Justice and Inclusion at Rowan University.  He's going to offer a workshop on gaining confidence for networking with attention to how uneven experiences of advantage, opportunity, privilege, etc may impact our comfort accessing and navigating different spaces for networking (e.g., academic conferences), and how to not only access these spaces but connect with potential mentors and build relationships.  This session will be useful to students at any stage in the program.
