(NEW) PRESENTERS NEEDED- SoHE Prospective Graduate Student Virtual Info Session

October 20, 3:00-4:30pm, online

We are hosting our annual school-wide virtual information session for prospective SoHE graduate students. We’re looking for 1-2 current students from each program to give a short (1 slide, 2 minute) presentation about their research/capstone/creative work and then answer prospective student questions. Attention, Graduate Student Caregivers!

The Wisconsin Student Parents Organization (WISPO) requests your participation in a completing a survey on the experiences of caregiving students on the UW-Madison campus. Caregiving students are any students who are pregnant, parenting, or guardians of youth under the age of 18 and/or dependent adults. An optional interview will be offered following completion of the survey (participants who opt-in will be contacted via email for scheduling).

Campus exhibit reckons with institution’s history, lifts voices of marginalized

An exhibit that uncovers and gives voice to those who experienced and challenged bigotry and exclusion at the University of Wisconsin–Madison opened Monday, September 12 on the university’s campus. View the exhibit online or in-person at the Chazen Museum of Art through Friday, December 23.

(NEW) 2022 Virtual Annual Meeting for the UW-Madison Prevention Research Center (UWPRC)

October 25, 1:00-5:00pm & October 26, 8:30am-1:00pm

The main goal of the UWPRC is to improve the health of low-income women, infants, and families by conducting health promotion and disease prevention research focused on maternal, infant, and child health. Our annual meeting is a place for stakeholders from academia, communities, and organizations to convene and support collaboration and shared responsibility for the research, training, and dissemination goals of the UWPRC. Our upcoming meeting will include a presentation with Dr. Alvin Thomas on the role fathers play in maternal and child health. Registration is free and closes October 20th.

(NEW) 2022 UW–Madison Diversity Forum—“The Power of Remembering: Reclaiming Our Legacies to Imagine New Futures”

November 14 & 15, 9:00am-4:00pm, Union South or online

The 2022 Diversity Forum will feature a keynote address by Harvard historian, author and professor Dr. Tiya Miles. A widely esteemed public historian, award-winning author and recipient of the MacArthur Genius Award, Miles’s work explores the intersections of African American, Native American and women’s histories in the 19th-century American South, Midwest and West. Her latest book, “All That She Carried: The Journey of Ashley’s Sack, a Black Family Keepsake,” won the National Book Award for Nonfiction in 2021. As always, the Diversity Forum is free and open to the public. The MS in Design + Innovation (MD+I) is pleased to present a Design Thinking Scavenger Hunt with food and prizes! This event is an opportunity for graduate and undergraduate students to connect with the current and future MD+I community over a series of missions that bring human-centered design to life across campus. You’ll have the chance to meet other innovators, experience campus from a new perspective, learn more about the Master of Science in Design + Innovation and, of course, enjoy refreshments (if not the sweet taste of victory). Three Minute Thesis Competition

November 2, 4:00-6:00pm

3MTis an international research communication competition in which graduate students explain their research to a general audience. As you hone communication skills, you will be better able to expand the benefits of your research beyond the bounds of the university and convey the significance of your work to potential funders, legislators, the media, and more. Students in research-based master’s and PhD programs from all disciplines are eligible to compete. Finalists selected at semi-finals hosted on November 2 will receive $100 cash prizes; finals will be held on February 17, 2023 where winners receive up to $1,000 in cash prizes. Call for Papers- Thirteenth International Conference on Food Studies

Founded in 2011, the Food Studies Research Network is brought together around a common interest to explore new possibilities for sustainable food production and human nutrition, and associated impacts of food systems on culture. We seek to build an epistemic community where we can make linkages across disciplinary, geographic, and cultural boundaries. As a Research Network, we are defined by our scope and concerns and motivated to build strategies for action framed by our shared themes and tensions. The Thirteenth International Conference on Food Studies calls for research addressing the following:

Graduate Student Project Support

The Early Childhood Health Consultation program, in partnership with the Wisconsin Department of Family and Children and the UW-Madison School of Human Ecology, is hiring a graduate student project assistant for the Early Childhood Health Consultation program. The anticipated start date is 10/17. Applications are open now and will close October 9, 2022. 

 

School Mental Health Collaborative

We are excited to announce a search for two postdoctoral research associates to participate in the School Mental Health Collaborative - Postdoctoral Research Training (SMHC-PRT) program.  The program is supported by a grant from the Institute for Education Sciences (IES). Training will be conducted within SMHC, a research and technical assistance center at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Postdoctoral researchers will work with a multi-disciplinary team of mentors whose work centers on youth mental health. Postdoctoral researchers will work on existing funded projects, while also conducting their own independent projects under mentor supervision. Trainees will also receive training and mentorship on conducting research within a social justice framework, developing their scholarship in youth mental health in educational contexts, and learning in collaboration with a cohort of other postdoctoral researchers. Trainees will have opportunities to develop their skills in implementation science, grant writing, and qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods research (among other topics). Application review will begin on October 15th. University of Georgia Assistant Professorship

We are looking to fill the position of Assistant Professor of Extension for Financial Planning and Consumer Wellbeing.  This tenure track position is 75% public service and outreach/Extension and 25% teaching. Complete applications received by October 16, 2022 will be given full consideration.

 

Pediatric Health Services Research Scientist

The Department of Pediatrics is seeking a PhD-level scientist to assist with health services research within the Pediatric Complex Care and Hospital Medicine research team. The scientist will assist with developing research proposals and grants, coordinating single and multisite data collection and analysis, and disseminating research findings. The scientist should have strong oral and written communication skills and be adept at collaborating with diverse multidisciplinary research teams. The scientist should also have mastery of biostatistical skills that can be leveraged to design, plan and analyze data collected from observational studies and clinical research trials. The scientist will report directly to Dr. Ryan Coller, Associate Professor, Chief, Division of Hospital Medicine, Department of Pediatrics. Applications are open now and will close October 16, 2022.

 

The Ballmer Institute @ the University of Oregon

The Ballmer Institute is seeking to hire up to ten (10) open-rank tenure-related faculty members in the area of child and adolescent behavioral health. Four new faculty hires are anticipated for Fall 2023 with search efforts continuing until all positions are filled. Candidates for these positions should have a program of research in child behavioral health which could include areas such as prevention science, intervention science, and/or health promotion with expertise in addressing the needs of historically and/or persistently underserved communities. Applications are open now and close November 1, 2022.

 

STEM Public Service Fellows (Now accepting applications for January 2023) 

The Public Service Fellows program is a three-semester professional development sequence for graduate students and postdocs in STEM. The program builds foundational knowledge, skills, and practical experience in public service and community engagement. Graduate and postdoc students from any STEM discipline will be able to incorporate issues of public concern into their career goals. This fellows program culminates in a mentored practicum with a campus, community, or governmental organization. Applications are open now and close October 21, 2022. Learn more about the program.

2023 Creative Arts Awards

Applications and nominations for the annual Creative Arts Awards is now open! Up to $122,500 is available to award this year in support of all campus arts community members in the areas of: Faculty Arts Research, Staff and Faculty Arts Outreach and Student Arts Research and Achievement. Food/Nutritional Science Postdoc Opportunity for Historically Underrepresented Academics at UNC-Chapel Hill

UNC-Chapel Hill is accepting applications for the Carolina Postdoctoral Program for Faculty Diversity (CPPFD)The program aims to develop and support scholars from different backgrounds, with potential advancement to tenure-track faculty appointments at UNC or other research universities. Research appointments start July 1, 2023 and last two years. During that time, scholars will engage in full-time research and writing and may teach one course per year. Applications for study in any discipline are welcome, but attention will be given to applicants whose research goals align with those of the Global Food Research Program (GFRP). Applications are open now and close November 15, 2022.

 

National Poverty Fellows Program (Now accepting applications for the 2023–2024 Fellowship Year)

The Institute for Research on Poverty is calling for applications for up to six postdoctoral fellows for 2023–2024 with an anticipated start date in late summer or early fall of 2023. The fellowship is for one year with the option of renewing for a second year.
