SoHE Printing Guide
Adding Printers in SoHE
Before you can add printers or print, you MUST be on the sohe vpn, or connected to sohe private.
To add a printer on Windows
1. Connect to the sohe vpn by opening global protect on your computer and signing in with you netid credentials
2. Download the HP Universal print drivers for windows PCL 6, which can be found under the Driver-Universal Print Driver drop down menu here:
HP print drivers. Follow the prompts to install the drivers
3. Open your computer settings > devices (Windowws 10) or bluetooth and devices (Windows 11) > printers and scanners
4. Click add printer or scanner. A list of printers might appear, ignore them and scroll down. Then click the link that says "the printer that I want isn't listed" (Windows 10) or “Add manually” (Windows 11).
5. Select add a printer using an IP address or hostname
6. For device type, use TCP/ IP Device
7. Use the table below to find the IP address of the printer you want to add. The port name should auto populate. If the port name does not auto populate, enter the printer IP address followed by '_x' where x is any number 1-9. eg. 111.22.333.444_1
8. When asked what driver to use, select HP from the left hand side, then select the PCL 6 driver
9. Click replace the current driver
10. Enter a name for the printer, and select do not share this printer on the network

To add a printer on a Mac
1. Connect to the sohe vpn by opening global protect on your computer and signing in with you netid credentials
2. Add the printer to your list of available printers: Choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Printers & Scanners in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
3. Click the Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax button on the right, click the IP button , then enter the printer information, using the following table as a guide.
4. Fill in the following information:
Address: Refer to the table above and enter the IP address of the printer you want to add
Protocol: Internet Printing Protocol
Queue: leave this blank
Name: whatever you want the printer to be called on your computer
Location and use can also be left blank.
