HDFS Research Symposium: Science that Shapes Lives

The inaugural HDFS Research Symposium is a dedicated space for undergraduate and early-stage graduate students to showcase work that impacts individuals and families. This event offers a professional platform to present research, gain confidence, and connect with the academic community in a relaxed setting.

The HDFS Research Symposium: Science that Shapes Lives will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026 in the Robin's Nest Cafe, second floor in Nancy Nicholas Hall from 3:30-5:30pm.

Undergraduate and early-stage graduate students with work to present, share, and discuss are encouraged to apply. Faculty, staff, and later-stage graduate students are invited to provide feedback, questions, and encouragement. Light snacks will be provided.


Application Requirements

To be eligible to present, students must submit a complete application with confirmed mentor approval. All undergraduates and early-stage graduate students who meet these criteria are highly encouraged to participate.

Deadline to apply: Monday, March 23, 2026, at 11:59 PM.

Here's what to do:

• Please talk with your mentor before starting this application - this is a required part of the process.

Submit one application per poster you plan to present. If you are applying to present a group project, please designate one group member to submit an application. You will be asked to provide the name(s) and email address(es) of your co-presenter(s).

• Confirm your ability to participate by standing with your poster, presenting your work, and answering questions during the research symposium. 


Poster Printing

Students who would like to print their posters in Human Ecology (paid for by HDFS) should send their posters to lmckee4@wisc.edu by Monday April 6 at 5pm. Students will be told when and where to pick up their printed posters. Files should be pdf or jpeg compatible. If students miss this deadline, they can print through the College Library for a fee.
