Overview of Server Certificates

UW-Madison is a participant in the InCommon Certificate Service, which entitles campus staff to obtain server (SSL/TLS) certificates at no cost.

By default, domains under wisc.edu, and wisconsin.edu are available. To request other domains please see: https://kb.wisc.edu/sslservercerts/18911#DCV

Certificates issued by InCommon/Sectigo are valid for 1 year and need to be manually renewed. We highly recommend auto-renewing certificates with a service like LetsEncrypt or the AWS Certificate Manager, for example.
