Mac Return Procedure- (Disable Find My Mac and Sign Out of iCloud)

When WCER employment ends, users will need to disable "Find My Mac" and sign out of iCloud. This ensures that Activation Lock is disabled and the device will be able to be erased and transferred to a new user.

Turn Off "Find My Mac"

  1. Choose System Settings (or System Preferences) from the Apple () menu.
    Select System Settings from the Apple menu



  2. Highlight your Apple ID and select iCloud from the list that appears.
    Highlight your Apple ID and select iCloud



  3. Scroll down until you see Find My Mac (or click the Show More Apps... button) and select it.
    Click on Show more apps button



  4. Click on Find My Mac (or select "Options" next to Find My Mac)
    Select Find My Mac



  5. Click on the Turn Off button.
    Click the Turn Off button



  6. Enter your Apple ID password when prompted and then press Continue.
    Enter your Apple ID password and press Conmtinmue button



  7. Press the Done button to complete the task.
    Press the Done button to finish

 

Sign Out of iCloud (sign out of your Apple ID)

When you follow these steps to sign out of iCloud, you are asked whether to keep a copy of your iCloud data on this Mac. It's faster to just select "keep a copy", because we will erase your Mac later.

   For macOS Ventura or later: 

  1. Choose Apple menu  > System Settings.
    Select System Settings from the Apple menu



  2. Highlight your name (Apple ID) in the sidebar and scroll down on the right side of the window and click on the Sign Out button.
    Highlight your Apple ID and click on Sign Out button



  3. Click on the Sign Out button when asked if you are sure you want to sign out.
    Are you saure? Choose SIgn Out.


  4. You should now be signed out of your Apple ID on this machine. Notice that where your name was displayed before in the sidebar, it displays "Sign In with your Apple ID".
    Sign in with your Appel ID is now displayed

   For macOS Monterey and older:

  1. Choose Apple menu  > System Preferences.
  2. Select your Apple ID
  3. Select Overview in the sidebar.
  4. Click the Sign Out button.
