- Ricoh Printer Drivers — ONLY needed if installing on a personally-owned Mac
- You will first need to download and install the macOS print driver manually before proceeding to install the Ricoh printer. Otherwise the "Use" field will display "Generic Postscript" and there will be no place to enter the 4-digit print code when creating a printer preset.
Choose the link that corresponds to the printer you wish to install:
- Download Drivers for:
Alma (12th floor), Springfield (11th floor), Florence (4th floor), Minneapolis (6th floor), Omaha (5th floor), Kitt Peak (7th floor)
- Download Drivers for:
Queenstown (10th floor), Ludington (2nd floor), London (3rd floor), Edo (9th floor)

Install a WCER Network Floor Printer
- Open System Settings either from the dock, or from the (Apple) menu, and select the Printers & Scanners from the list of settings.
- Select the Printers & Scanners setting from the left side of the window and click on the Add Printer, Scanner or Fax... button.
- Select the IP globe icon within the Add window that appears and complete the following
a) Enter the printer's fully qualified domain name within the Address field. In our example, the printer is named Omaha, so we will enter wceromaha.ad.education.wisc.edu
b) Make sure Line Printer Daemon - LPD is selected from the Protocol drop-down menu.
c) Edit the entry in the Name field to something easier to read. Again, this would be Omaha in our example.
d) The Location field is optional, but it may be helpful for you to enter something here.
e) The Use field automatically populates with the proper Ricoh driver. If it displays Generic Postscript, please verify that the Address field is correct.
Press the Add button. - Click on the new printer under the Printers list to reveal the printer's information window.
Then click the Options & Supplies... button - Choose Lower Paper Trays from the Option Tray drop-down menu.
Choose Installed from the Internal Tray 2 drop-down menu.
The printer is now installed, but print jobs will not make it through until we configure the printer with a 4-digit print code. To do this, proceed to the Create a Printer Preset section of this article.
Printer Presets
In order to print to WCER Ricoh floor printers, you need two settings configured:
- 4-digit project print code
- Black & White default color mode
On a Mac computer, these settings, among others, are stored in a configuration file called a printer preset. Once a preset is created for a printer, it can be sued for all print jobs on that Mac.
Create a Printer Preset
- Open Microsoft Word and open any document, or create a new one and Select Print from the "File" menu.
Note: You can use just about any Mac application to create a printer preset, but I just prefer using Microsoft Word. - In the Print window that appears, make sure your printer is selected. In our example we will choose "Omaha".
- Scroll down and select Printer Options to expend the menu. Then click on the information icon associated with Job Log.
- In the window that pops up, enter your WCER username within the User ID text field. Click the Enable User Code checkbox and enter your project's 4-digit print code within the User Code text field.
Click the OK button to confirm. - Select information icon associated with the Printer Features option.
- In the window that pops up, select Black and White from the "Color Mode" pull-down menu.
Click the OK button to confirm. - Select Save Current Settings as Preset..." from the the "Presets" pull-down menu.
- In the resulting window, enter a name for the preset within the "Preset Name" text field. In this example, I chose to name it "Omaha - B&W - 1234" so that if I ever need to print for another project, I won't be confused as to which preset I should use.
Click the OK button to save.
A printer preset has now been created for Omaha that can be used for all applications on your computer. You may click either the "Print" or "Cancel" buttons and the preset will remain.
