Remote Connection to Network Drives (Mac)

Instructions on how to connect the Home and Network drives on Maple for Mac computers.

Prerequisites

You must first be connected to the GlobalProtect Departmental VPN to be able to follow the instructions found in this article.

WCER Server Changes - January 11, 2020
WCER's main projects folder (known as projects$ to Mac users, and the N: drive to Windows users) has been migrated to more advanced equipment.  Part of that migration involved changing its name from maple to may.
Any mappings or links using the old name of maple will still resolve to the correct name of may, which should be unnoticeable by the end user, but we will be updating all our documentation to reflect the new server name and refer to the server as may this point forward.

Connecting to the WCER Home (H:) Drive

The WCER Home drive is a location on the May file server only accessible to your user account.
NOTE:  The H: drive (username drive) is no longer being provided to new WCER members. This drive may be going away in the near future with the availability and prevalence of Box, OneDrive, and other University-provided cloud services.
  1. While in the Finder select Go -> "Connect to Server" (Or click on your desktop and hit Command+k)
  2. In the Server Address field enter the following, while replacing <username> with your WCER/SoE username:
    smb://may/<username>
  3. Click the + sign next to the Server Address field to save the location.
  4. Click Connect
  5. A username and password field pops up, in these fields enter your username in the following format:
    username field: <username>
    password field: <password>
(the same one used for the GlobalProtect VPN)

Connecting to the WCER Network/Projects (N:) Drive

The WCER Network/Project drive is a location on the May file server.
  1. While in the Finder select Go -> "Connect to Server" (Or click on your desktop and hit Command+k)
  2. In the Server Address field enter the following:
    smb://may/projects$
  3. Click the + sign next to the Server Address field to save the location.
  4. Click Connect
  5. A username and password field pops up, in these fields enter your username in the following format:
    username field: <username>
password field: <password>  (the same one used for the GlobalProtect VPN)
