Connect to a Law School Network Drive from a Mac
How to connect to network drives remotely with Macintosh computers running OSX.
Before You Begin
Your Mac must be connected to one of the following:
- The Law School Wi-Fi network while inside the building
- A wired network connection inside the Law School
- Any other network while connected to the UW-Madison VPN

Connect to a Network Drive
- Open Finder.
- From the menu bar, select Go → Connect to Server...
- You can also press Command + K.
- Copy the drive address you need from the list below.
- Replace NETID with your NetID.
- Paste the address into the Server Address field.
- Click Connect.
- When prompted:
- Username:
ad\NetID - Password: Your NetID password
- Username:
- Click Connect.
Example
If your NetID is bbadger, the S Drive path would be:
smb://ad;bbadger@storage.law.wisc.edu/uwlaw-storage-gateway/sdrive

Add a Drive to Finder Favorites
After connecting, you can keep frequently used drives in the Finder sidebar for easy access.

Troubleshooting
Error When Saving Files
Some antivirus products, including AVG, may interfere with saving files to network drives.
You may receive an error similar to:
"Word cannot save this document due to a naming or permissions error on the destination volume."
Test: Temporarily disable the antivirus software and try saving again.
Current Resolution: Remove AVG and install Symantec Endpoint Protection.
