Working with the Request Offering Designer
The Request Offering Designer interface is four panels. Navigate the panels using Next and Back buttons or click directly on the tabs themselves.
1. Design request offering
This page contains general information about the request offering. While it contains many settings, these are the most important for each new request offering:
-
Service: Set the service for the request offering from the CMDB.
-
Name: Choose a name for the request offering as it will appear in the self service portal. For most request offerings, it is recommended to include the service name or an abbreviation in the title, typically followed by a dash and then the actual name e.g. “CLP - Laptop Checkout”
-
Description: a brief description of the request offering that will appear on the tile in the self-service portal.
-
Categories: Each request offering must have at least one category associated with it, but a request offering can have more than one. Each request offering must be associated with the category that corresponds to its service under the “IT Services” category. Do not create new categories without consulting the WiscIT team.
-
Hide price information: we recommend this be checked by default.
-
Hide delivery time information: we recommend this be checked by default.
2. Design request form
The Form designer lets you design the actual content of the web form. Important notes:
-
Drag controls from the Form Designer Tools pane on the right hand side to the main Request Form section of the interface.
-
Use the blue pencil icon next to a control to configure field settings e.g. Required, Read only, Default values and more
-
Use the preview button to the upper right of the Request Form section to do functional testing. The form will have different/better formatting in the self-service portal, but the preview button is great to understand if a certain configuration works or not.
3. Plan Request Fulfillment
This page allows you to configure any workflow that takes place after form submission, e.g. tasks, approvals, or email notifications. If you are interested in configuring a workflow please contact the WiscIT team.
4. Publish Action Access
This page allows you to publish the request offering and select which people are eligible to use it.
-
To publish your request offering, change the status from “In Design” to “Published”
-
By default, request offerings are only available to users with the Admin role. Change the role column to Any to make the request offering available to all users. Publishing a request offering to a select subset of users is not available at this time.
