WiscIT - How to Search

This document describes how to search in WiscIT.

Searching in WiscIT is done in Object Workspaces (see WiscIT - Workspaces Overview for more information). A search will only return results that are the object of the workspace, e.g. searches in the Incident Workspace will only return incidents. There are multiple ways to search in a Workspace.

Free Text Search

Object Workspaces have a free-text search box in the upper-right hand corner of the Workspace. To use free-text search:

  1. Log into WiscIT. See WiscIT - Logging into WiscIT Powered by Ivanti Neuronsfor more information.

  2. Open the Object Workspace. See WiscIT - Workspaces Overview for more information.

  3. Enter a search string into the free-text search box in the upper right-hand corner of the Workspace.
  4. Either click a preview card that appears after entering the search string, or click the Magnifying Glass Icon to see all search results if the preview card does not return the desired result.

Using a Saved Search

When an Object Workspace is opened, a list of search results is displayed automatically. The default search results that are returned vary based on the current user's role.

  1. Log into WiscIT. See WiscIT - Logging into WiscIT Powered by Ivanti Neurons for more information.

  2. Open an Object Workspace. See WiscIT - Opening a Workspace for more information.

  3. Click the Search Selector box in the upper left-hand corner of the Workspace.

  4. Favorite Searches will appear in a drop-down menu. Click a search to view the results for that search.
  5. Optional: If the desired search is not a favorite search, click All Saved Searches in the lower right-hand corner of the drop-down menu to view all saved searches available to the current role and user.

  6. Optional: Once a search has been selected, hover the mouse cursor over the Search Selector and click the Blue Pencil Icon to view and edit the search criteria.

Construct a Custom Search

  1. Log into WiscIT. See 161743 for more information.

  2. Open an Object Workspace. See 161199 for more information.

  3. Click the Blue Folder Icon to the right of the Free Text Search in the upper right-hand corner of the workspace.

  4. Construct a Search Clause. Search Clauses consistent of four inputs:

    1. The Object to search against. Defaults to the current business object e.g. "Incident" for an Incident Search. The drop-down can be used to select an object related to the current object e.g. the Service related to an Incident. Use the Is Related To option to search against 1:many or many:many relationships.

    2. The Field to search against.

    3. The Operator to use to compare the Field to the selected value.

    4. The Value to use for the search.

    Example: [Incident][OwerTeam][Equals][Learn@UW]

  5. After constructing the initial clause, click the Plus Icon then select AND or OR to add additional clauses as needed.

  6. Click Run Search to view the search results.

  7. Optional:Adjust search clauses as needed and click Run Search until the desired results are returned.

  8. Optional: Click Save to save the search for later use. Check the add to Favorite Searches box if the search should appear in the favorite searches menu. Most roles are only able to save personal searches. To publish searches to roles, see [LINK TO DOC ONCE CREATED].
