WiscIT - Team Email Overview

This document explains the Team Email feature in WiscIT.

What is a Team Email Address?

A Team Email is the email address to which automatic notifications are sent to teams, e.g. the Incident Team Assignment notificaiton. A Team Email must be a single email address, it cannot be a comma separated colleciton of email addresses. Teams are responsible for choosing and maintaining their Team Email address.

Because Team Email addresses are limited to a single email address, the WiscIT team recommends using either:

  • A mailing list, e.g. a Google Group
  • An email address for a Microsoft Teams channel

Most teams will use a mailing list for their Team Email, but in some circumstances a Microsoft Teams channel email address may be preferable.

Updating a Team's Email Address

Team Managers are able to update the Team Email for the Teams that they manage.

Configuring a Mailing List

A mailing list used for a team address must be configured to accept mail from wiscit@doit.wisc.edu. In a Google Group, this means either:

  • Adding wiscit@doit.wisc.edu as a member to the list with posting privileges, or
  • Configuring the Google Group to allow mail from all organization members
