User Accounts

Here is a guide to basic usage when a WSUM User account has been created for you.

What is a WSUM User Account?

When a WSUM Executive has created an account for you, you will be granted access to log into any of the computers at WSUM Studios as an alternative to using the public "Internet" user account. A WSUM user account username is likely the same as your UW NetID. For WSUM Users who do not have a NetID, the username was set up at the time of creation.

Note: If a workstation is already logged in, it shall be considered courtesy to log the user off and log back in either as "Internet" or as one's self. If a workstation is locked, press and hold the power button to turn the computer off and then back on.

At the time of account creation, a password has been assigned and provided.

Note: If there is going to be a lot of recording and editing done, it is advised that you reboot the computer before you log in. It helps, really...

Press the "Ctrl" + "Alt" + "Delete" keys at the same time to present the login page.

To log in with a user account, press the "Switch User" button. On the next screen, select "Other User." OtherUser.PNG
Enter in your provided username [UW Net ID] and the initial password provided.  EnterUsername.PNG

Note: While WSUM may use the UW NetID for login, the passwords are not the same as your UW NetID account. The systems are separate and unrelated.

The first time you log in, you will be asked to replace your password.  The new password must be a complex password with punctuation, numbers and a minimum 7 characters. ResetPasswordRequest.PNG ConfirmPassword.PNG

Enter your new password and you are off!

User Account Privileges

Your WSUM User account is a roaming account within WSUM, which means that documents and settings you save will follow you from computer to computer, but only if you log off properly when you are done using a computer! However, there is a limitation of 4gb of space to a personal network folder. Be careful if large edit projects or music libraries [iTunes included] will be larger than this.

For more information on setting up and using computers and equipment at WSUM's Studio Facility, please visit the WSUM Studio Facility topic page.
