WiscVPN GlobalProtect (Windows) - Installing, Connecting, and Uninstalling
Installing the GlobalProtect VPN client
Download the Client
You must download one of the GlobalProtect versions below. It is a common mistake to download the app version from the Windows store, which is not part of the standard installation process.
Note: You must be connected to the campus network or already have VPN access to download the following files.
- Download GlobalProtect for Windows (32-Bit)
- Download GlobalProtect for Windows (64-Bit)
- Download the GlobalProtect ARM64 Client
If you are unsure of which version to download, please see Windows (Vista, 10, 11) - Determining 32-Bit, 64-Bit, or ARM Versions
Windows 7 and 8 are no longer supported by this version of GlobalProtect.
- To install legacy versions of the client, please visit Index of Clients. You must be on the UW Madison Campus wireless network to access the list of clients.
Downloading the client while not on campus
If you do not have VPN access or you are not on campus, you must use the following steps.
Note: If you have an ARM computer, you will need to use the ARM64 download link on a computer or phone with the VPN already installed. Then, send the file to your ARM computer using your email or a content management system (Box, Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.). Once you've sent the file and downloaded it to your ARM computer, you can follow the instructions under Installing on Your Computer.
- Go to the UW-Madison GlobalProtect Portal.
- Login using your NetID and NetID password.
- Use MFA-Duo to verify your identity.
- Download the Windows 32-bit or 64-bit GlobalProtect agent, depending on your system.
- Follow the instructions under Installing on Your Computer.
Installing on Your Computer
-
After downloading the file, navigate to your Downloads folder and locate the .msi or .pkg file. Double-click it to begin the installation.
-
Follow the prompts given to you by the setup wizard.
- If a Windows Security prompt pops up, click Allow.
- Click Close to finish the installation.
Note: If you are having trouble installing WiscVPN, try disabling the antivirus on your machine (if you have one). When you are done with the installation, re-enable your antivirus. Reboot your computer before trying to connect to WiscVPN. Please refer to the Microsoft Support documentation for instructions to do so.
