If the machine is assigned to one person, download and install from the Microsoft 365 Portal

If the machine is not assigned to one person and is a shared machine, IT staff can download and install the Office 2019 installation package from Microsoft, then download and run the serializer from the Campus Software Library > Microsoft for UW-owned Computers > Microsoft Office for Macintosh > Volume License Serializer for Office 20xx for Mac.

If the machine is not assigned to one person and is a shared machine that will not require NetID login (such as a kiosk), IT staff can download and install from the Campus Software Library > Microsoft for UW-owned Computers > Microsoft Office for Windows Shared Machines (C2R Installers) > Office 2019 Pro Plus for Kiosks.

If the machine is not assigned to one person and is a shared machine that will require NetID login (such as in a computer lab), IT staff can download and install from the Campus Software Library > Microsoft for UW-owned Computers > Microsoft Office for Windows Shared Machines (C2R Installers) > Microsoft 365 Pro Plus for Computer Labs.

Before separation from UW-Madison, employees can purchase a discounted Microsoft 365 subscription to retain access to Microsoft Office desktop apps after separation. Emeritus/retired can continue to get the discounted rate as long as they continue to renew their subscription.

This subscription is completely separate from your UW-Madison Microsoft 365 subscription.

The online versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, OneNote, and Powerpoint are free to everyone, but you can't access them from within your UW Microsoft portal. You can access them using a separate, personal Microsoft account that you can set up here: https://www.office.com/

Retail Microsoft Office products are available directly from Microsoft, and Outlook can be configured to access your UW-Madison email and calendar.

Although most emeritus/retired will not be able to initiate downloads of Office, Office downloaded from the CSL can be installed and used on any UW-owned computer.

If emeritus/retired have a zero-dollar or part-time appointment, they will be able to download and install software from the CSL solely for installation and use on UW-owned computers.

Not licensed to use Office desktop apps under any existing agreement between UW and Microsoft
