Adobe Media Encoder - Getting Started (UW-Madison)

This page provides basic information on where to download Adobe Media Encoder, and a list of resources on it both online and at UW-Madison.

Adobe Media Encoder is a tool design to help you convert media from one format to another. It is mostly geared toward the conversion of video, but also works with audio.

Examples

Because Adobe Media Encoder is a utility used to assist with the conversion of files, there are no specific education-based examples. It works in the background doing things like:

  • Trimming the beginning and end from lecture capture videos.
  • Converting a video from MOV to MP4.
  • Uploading your converted videos directly to YouTube.
  • Creating an audio-only file from a video file.
  • Creating an animated GIF from a video file.

Download

Adobe Media Encoder has been licensed by UW-System for use by faculty and staff on both UW- and personally-owned devices and by everyone on UW-owned machines provisioned with Shared Device Licensing. Please check with your local IT staff to see if they can install Adobe Media Encoder for you or if there are departmental policies on use and support of Adobe products. Faculty and staff can download Media Encoder by following the directions in KB doc 69772.
