Honorlock - Add extended time and accommodate timed assessments
Honorlock is an online auto-proctoring tool that can be linked to quizzes in Canvas. It is important to consider accommodations for students prior to using Honorlock as the students' accommodations may generate additional flags for review and/or may conflict with standard instructions you provide to students taking the quiz.
This document is part of an Honorlock guide series, Honorlock - Implementing disability-related accommodations (Instructors). or view the following steps for implementing Student Accommodations using Honorlock.
Steps for Implementing Student Accommodations
- Review known issues and limitations of Honorlock
- Setting up accommodations or bypass proctoring in Honorlock
- Discuss accommodation plans with individual students
- Document individual accommodation plans
- Add extended time and accommodate timed assessments (this document)
Schedule and add approved extended time in Canvas
Instructors add extra time in Canvas Quizzes. Please note the exam access is controlled entirely by Canvas. The Honorlock window will remain open until the student closes the window or the exam ends.
- If the student is approved for breaks during timed assessments, be sure to include break time in the total Canvas quiz time and instruct the student to begin their exam early enough. Unless otherwise specified in the Faculty Notification Letter, multiplying the student's total time (after any extended time is added) by 25% is a way to allow for breaks.
- If a student needs to test at a different day/time (class conflict, morning/afternoon exams, one exam per day), needs a larger window to complete the exam due to extra time, or you need to reschedule an exam, you can use the Canvas Quizzes "Assign to" functionality on the quiz Edit screen to "+Add" a different day and/or time window than the rest of the class.
