CHM IT - Connecting to the Shared/Home Drive
Connecting to the CHM Shared/Home Drive
The CHM home drive contains your profile’s files and folders that roam with you (Desktop, Downloads, Documents, etc.).
The CHM Shared Drive contains a number of shared folders that you or your group might use to do your work. Please note: this is a different area than the CHM home drive. Accessing the CHM Shared Drive is different depending on what type of computer you are using.
Connecting with a Windows Desktop
As long as your machine is a part of our CHM environment, the shared drive will automatically mount under “This PC”. Simply click start and type “This PC” to open file explorer:
Connecting with a Mac Desktop
Macs will not automatically mount the shared drive - you’ll have to do this manually. The process is the same as mounting any other network drive. Open a finder window and click the “Go” menu at the top of your screen, then select “Connect to Server”:
-
In the Server Address field, enter the following:
-
On the next window, enter your NetID and password:
Open the “home/(YOUR NETID)” folder to access your home drive, and the “shared” folder to access your shared drive space. If the shared drive is blank, you do not have access to any shared folders.
Connecting with a Windows Laptop
-
First, connect to the Brain Imaging VPN or UW-Madison VPN
-
Open “This PC” by clicking Start and typing “This PC”, then hit enter
-
At the top of the explorer window, click “Computer” and “Map Network Drive”:
-
“Drive” can be any letter you’d like.
-
Folder: \\chm.drive.wisc.edu\chm\
-
Make sure to click the “reconnect at sign-in” and “connect using different credentials” button
-
Click “Finish”
-
On the next window, enter AD\(your netID). It’s VERY IMPORTANT you include “AD\” otherwise this will not work!
-
Click “Remember my Credentials” and then hit “OK”.
The drive should appear, and should remain in “This PC”. Open the “home/(YOUR NETID)” folder to access your home drive, and the “shared” folder to access your shared drive space. If the shared drive is blank, you do not have access to any shared folders.
Connecting with a Mac Laptop
Instructions are exactly the same as connecting with a Mac desktop, except you need to connect to the VPN first!
