CHM IT - Overview of the CHM Computing Environment

An overview of the computing environment at CHM

CHM Computing Environment

The new (2022) CHM computing environment is slightly different from the Brain Imaging environment that you may be used to. If you are missing any programs, or something is broken, please email help@chm.wisc.edu.

LOGINS TO THE NEW ENVIRONMENT (both Mac and PC) USE UW-MADISON NETID AND PASSWORD, NOT BRAIN IMAGING IDs!

Windows

  • Login to machines using your UW-Madison NetID and Password, NOT your Brain Imaging username & password!

  • Machines are NOT connected to the Brain Imaging study drive by default. To connect to the study or home drive, click the "Connect to Brain Imaging Drives" shortcut on your desktop:

Windows Connect Study Drive shortcut

  • Next, enter your BRAIN IMAGING username & password in the window that appears. Your password will NOT display when you type it:

  • Once you’ve entered your password in twice (once for the study drive, once for the home drive), connections to these drives should appear in your “This PC” window. You can find this window by clicking Start and typing “This PC” or “Computer”

Only files saved in your home drive or on the study drive are backed up! Files saved locally to the computer will not roam with you! Please make sure to save anything important to your home drive or study drive!

If for some reason your CHM home drive doesn’t appear automatically, or you need to manually connect to it, you can click the “Go” menu at the top of your screen and select “Connect to Server”: smb://chm.drive.wisc.edu/chm/home/(YOUR NETID)
