CHM IT - Connecting to the BRAIN IMAGING Study Drive

Connecting to the BRAIN IMAGING study drive

If you are connecting from a laptop, you first need to connect to the Brain Imaging VPN! Shared desktops at CHM do not require this step.

Mac OS

From the Mac Finder select Go -> Connect to Server (or ⌘K).

For server address, type smb://keck.waisman.wisc.edu/study

Recently MacOS will attempt to auto-log you into the drive with your apple credentials, so you may have to put your BI username in the SMB connection like so:

smb://BIUsername@keck.waisman.wisc.edu/study (for example: smb://tchristian@keck.waisman.wisc.edu/study)

mount study drive

Click connect as a "Registered User" and once again enter your Brain Imaging Lab user name and password.

mount a partition

The study drive will appear as a network drive on your mac.  Enabling "show hard drives" and/or "show connected servers" in Finder->Preferences will ease navigation.

Windows

Open the "Computer" window of Windows Explorer by going to Start -> Computer, or by typing "computer" or "This PC" in the search bar.

When "This PC" opens, click on the three dots near the top of the navigation and choose "Map Network Drive"

map network drive

In the next window that appears, choose any drive letter, and in the "Folder" box, type: \\keck.waisman.wisc.edu\study

connect to network drive

Make sure to select "Connect using different credentials". If you'd like the drive to try to connect every time you start up your computer, choose "Reconnect at logon". Bear in mind, you will need to be connected to the VPN (or on a desktop computer) in order to successfully connect to the drive.

Click Finish. In the next box that appears, enter KECK\(YOUR USERNAME), and your password. (If on Windows 10, click "More choices", then "Use a different account" to make the user name box show up.)

username

Hit OK, and the Study drive will appear!
