The following document covers general printing policies and information for the department.

Printing Rules:
  • All printing done through the department must be for GNS use.
  • Using printers or funds for non-departmental business' is prohibited.
  • Any printer/copier issues should be reported to Thor Rothering.
If you notice ink or paper are getting low please report it to Thor Rothering as soon as possible so he can place an order for more.

Copy Machines:
  • GNS has access to two copy machines located on the 8th and 14th floors (rooms 839 Van Hise Hall and 1439 Van Hise Hall).
  • The copy machines require a login code for use. If you do not know your code or need to be given one please contact Mark Mears (mkmears@wisc.edu).
  • If these machines are exhibiting issues, are out of ink or paper, or you need help functioning them please contact Thor Rothering.
Printers:

- 807 Color Printer
- 1307 B&W

  • Printing on the color printers MUST be limited to 10 pages. Jobs with more than ten pages can be printed through alternative means. See the "Bulk Printing" section below for more information.
  • If these machines are exhibiting issues, are out of ink or paper, or you need help functioning them please contact Thor Rothering.
Personal Printers:
  • Individual office printers are the responsibility of the office occupants.
  • If you have an issue with a printer in your office please contact TechZone for assistance https://lss.wisc.edu/services/techzone/.
  • If you need ink or paper for your office printer please contact Thor Rothering.
Bulk and/or Custom Printing:

Using outside vendors is the preferred method for printing large amounts of material or custom print jobs such as over-sized posters, business cards, banners, etc. It is not only cheaper for the department, but typically yields a higher quality job than our departmental printers can.
  • Bulk printing must be approved by the chair and/or program head and a funding string provided.
  • All bulk and custom printing for the department should be run through Thor Rothering unless explicitly authorized.
  • Color printing for jobs that are more than ten pages must be done through this method.
  • The University offers various bulk and custom printing options available on and off campus that can complete jobs in a timely manner. Below are the three GNS recommended providers.
- Copy Center (Social Sciences Building) https://copy.ls.wisc.edu/
- StudentPrint https://stuprint.org/
- Digital Publishing & Printing Services https://printing.wisc.edu/

If you have any questions about printing for GNS or need to place a printing order please contact Thor Rothering.
