My UW Early NetID Activation for New Employees (UW-Madison only)

NetIDs are used to access many campus applications and services like My UW-Madison, Web Enrollment, Office 365. New UW-Madison employees can activate their NetID's prior to their start date using the 12-digit Activation Key assigned to them by their HR or payroll staff.

The Early NetID Activation for New Hires process allows UW-Madison employees to activate their NetID and core UW IT services prior to their job start date. Once an HR professional enters a new employee in JEMS/HRS and the employee EmplID has been generated along with a complete job record, the HR professional enters the emplID in the Early Activation module in MyUW, which they will get access to once authorized. This action generates a NetID Activation Key that HR staff send to the new hire. With the NetID Activation Key, the new employee is able to activate his/her NetID.

The early NetID authorizes new employees to use the following core UW IT services: Office 365, MyUW Portal, and Wireless/VPN network services. The new employee is NOT allowed to get a photo-ID until after the job effective start date.
