Opportunities to help shape IT policy

The newly re-chartered IT Policy Planning and Analysis Team (PAT) will meet monthly. The next meeting is Wed, Dec 13, 8:00-9:30, Rm B109 CS. These meetings help determine the future direction of IT policy. You are welcome to attend.

The Network Firewall Policy has been drafted. Comments are always welcome. The PAT is working on a cover letter to accompany the policy when it is forwarded to IT governance this winter. Please send comments to policy@cio.wisc.edu.

Draft of "Cybersecurity Risk Management Policy".
- The Information Technology Committee (ITC) endorsed the policy on May 19. The University Committee (UC) considered it in Oct. The policy will have its first reading in the Faculty Senate this Winter. The policy will then be reviewed and commented upon by various UW-Madison communities. Details TBD.

The draft Network Firewall Policy.
- The draft policy was reviewed by the Advanced Threat Protection Steering Committee on Sep 21, the Policy Planning and Analysis Team (PAT), on Sep 26, and the UW-Madison Information Security Team (UW-MIST) on Oct 5. The PAT is working on a cover letter to accompany the policy when it is forwarded to IT governance this winter.

The Proposal to Develop a Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation Policy (CDM).
The proposal will be reviewed and submitted to IT governance this Winter.

The previously announced discussion of the Digital Accessibilty Strategic Plan and Policy has been delayed until April, in order to allow more time to finish drafting the strategic plan.

The PAT is a subcommittee of the Information Technology Committee. The PAT assists IT governance with the execution and iterative improvement of the IT Policy Principles and Procedures. This includes intake, prioritization, drafting, and analysis of IT policies, communication with the UW-Madison community, and planning for IT Policy forums. See the PAT charter for details. Web and Mobile Accessibility/Usability Coordinating Group (Coordinating Group)
An external peer review of UW-Madison Web Accessibility occured on Nov 6 and 7. If you would like information on the results, please send an inquiry to accessibility@cio.wisc.edu. The report of the peer reviewers will be delivered by Dec 31. Following up, the strategic plan for digital accessibility will be developed during January through March 2018.
The group coordinates improvement of the digital accessibility of UW-Madison web and mobile systems and services through implementation of accessibility tools; creation of best practices, standards, and shared-expertise; creation of training for developers and service providers; and measurement of accessibility of websites and mobile applications.
