This document outlines the requirements for who in L&S at the UW-Madison needs to file an annual or updated Outside Activities Report (OAR).

Federal, State and UW-Madison policies dictate that the following individuals must file an annual Outside Activities Report (OAR):

  • All academic staff with a 50% or greater appointment
  • Anyone listed on a federal grant as a PI, Co-PI or Key Personnel, even students
  • Anyone listed on a human subjects protocol, even students

Anyone who acquires a new outside activity must report within 30 days, even if they have already filed that year.

Reports are submitted online at Outside Activities Reporting

Reports must be filed by the personnel listed above, even if no outside activities have taken place.
