UW-Madison is transitioning from Kaltura CaptureSpace to Kaltura's new screen capture tool, Kaltura Capture.

Many Kaltura MediaSpace users are familiar with CaptureSpace, a tool for creating screen capture videos that seamlessly upload to Kaltura. Kaltura MediaSpace licensed CaptureSpace from a third party in order to provide this functionality to users. Kaltura will be ending support for CaptureSpace in June. UW-Madison will be transitioning to Kaltura's new screen capture tool, Kaltura Capture. To facilitate the transition process, UW-Madison users will be able to use either CaptureSpace or Kaltura Capture during the preliminary transition period as we phase out CaptureSpace. Some dates to be aware of:

  • Tuesday, April 16th: Kaltura Capture was made widely available to campus.
  • Friday, May 17th: The CaptureSpace installer will be disabled to encourage users to move to Kaltura Capture. Users who have previously downloaded CaptureSpace can continue to use it until June 14th.
  • Saturday, June 1 – Kaltura no longer supports CaptureSpace. Users can continue to use it through June 14 but will only be able to receive limited support from the Learn@UW team.
  • Saturday, June 15th: Uploads from CaptureSpace to MediaSpace will be disabled as Kaltura support for CaptureSpace ends. Users will need to use Kaltura Capture from June 15th on. (Note: This date has been updated based on new information from the vendor. Previously, the last day of support was set to be June 25th.)

Recordings created from either software will continue to exist in Kaltura MediaSpace after June 2019. For more information please see our KnowledgeBase documents on installing Kaltura Capture or using Kaltura Capture. If you have any issues please contact the DoIT Help Desk.
