DoIT Departmental Tech Support - SnagIT Upgrades

The information below was emailed to Departmental Tech Support designated primary contacts for distribution to supported customers. This document is meant to serve as a convenient reference for the same information.

Dear Departmental Support technical contacts,

We hope you're doing well. We recently procured an updated license for SnagIT, a software application used for screen capture and recording. The new license can only be distributed alongside the latest version of the application. We have created content to update existing SnagIT installations.

What should you/end-users do?

In the coming weeks, devices with an older version of SnagIT will display a notification via the BigFix Self-Service Application prompting users to start the software upgrade process.  Users can defer these actions and update when it’s convenient to them for up to seven days. After seven days, the software will be updated automatically.

What to expect

For devices with affected versions of SnagIT…

  • The action will close SnagIT, remove the prior version and upgrade to the current version.

  • User data should be unaffected by the update.

  • Users may be prompted to select a new File Association the first time they open an image file after the upgrade.

Why are we making this change?

SnagIT has moved from a perpetual license to a one-year term license, which means the license must be updated once per year for SnagIT to continue to function.
